Natural Law

The Declaration of Independence declares us a nation under God's law, often referred to as "natural law."
Sir William Blackstone, one of the most referenced philosophers by our founders, defined natural law this way: "Man, considered as a creature, must necessarily be subject to the laws of his Creator, for he is entirely a dependent being…And, consequently, as man depends absolutely upon his Maker for everything, it is necessary that he should conform to his Maker's will. This will of his Maker, is called the law of nature."
Our founders made natural law the law of the land, not legal positivism or relativism as is unfortunately the practice in many American courts today. As George Washington said, "It is impossible to rightly govern … without God and the Bible."
